Little Ideas for Big Teaching

A Garden of Flowers

A Garden of Flowers by Andrea Spillett

Your students will love creating a garden of flowers in the spring.

What You Need:

  • 12” x 18” pieces of white construction paper
  • Watercolors
  • Paintbrushes
  • Green Popsicle sticks (or paint regular ones green)
  • Glue
  • Green, orange, red, white, purple, and yellow tempera paint
  • Scissors
  • Green tissue paper

What To Do:

  1. Place one piece of white construction paper vertically.
  2. Using the watercolors, paint the top ¾ of the paper blue and the bottom ¼ green.
  3. Paint the other pieces of the white construction paper red, pink, yellow/orange, brown, and lavender. Let dry.
  4. Glue the green Popsicle sticks onto the blue/green-painted construction paper for the stems of the flowers.
  5. Let your students decide what kinds of flowers they would like to create. I made a tulip, sunflower, and chrysanthemum.
  6. Glue ripped up green tissue at the bottom.
