What You Need:

  • White sentence strips
  • Red paint/paintbrush
  • Scissors
  • 4 ½” x 2” piece of black construction paper
  • 2” x 1” piece of black construction paper
  • 3” x 1 ½” piece of white construction paper
  • 1” piece of white yarn
  • Black crayon
  • Hole punch
  • Black pipe cleaners
  • Red heart foam cutouts
  • Stapler

What To Do:

  1. Paint the sentence strip red.
  2. Take the 4 ½ ” x 2” piece of black construction paper and cut the top two corners and the tips off. Glue onto the center of the red sentence strip with the black paper touching the bottom.
  3. Fold the 3” x 1 ½ ” piece of white construction paper in half. Cut the four corners and the tips to make the eyes. Glue to the black construction paper. Cut the 2” x 1” piece of black construction paper in the same way. Glue to make the insides of the eyes.
  4. Glue the 1” piece of white yarn to the black construction paper for the mouth.
  5. Use a black crayon to draw dots on the headband.
  6. Hole punch two holes toward the top of the headband. Coil the black pipe cleaner around the paintbrush. Insert through the holes.
  7. Staple the two foam red hearts to the top of the pipe cleaner.
  8. Measure the sentence strip around the student’s head, lift it up, and staple the end pieces together.
