Sombreros by Andrea Spillett


These beautiful sombreros are a fun and colorful way to celebrate the culture of Mexico.


What You Need (1 per student):


  • 5” x 7” skin-colored construction paper, various shades
  • Large white precut sombrero shape
  • Red yarn
  • Tape
  • Oil pastels, assorted colors
  • Pom poms, assorted colors
  • Glue
  • Scissors


What To Do:


  1. Cut the top two corners and tips off the piece of skin-colored construction paper. Tape the red yarn on, and glue to the precut sombrero.
  2. Show your students pictures of different sombreros to inspire ideas on decorating. Use the oil pastels to decorate the sombrero.
  3. Glue on the pom poms.
  4. Draw on the face.
